Government Warned Electrical Safety Must Be Urgently Addressed

New Government warned of the grave dangers of not addressing electrical safety.

182 New MPs have been warned of the grave dangers of not addressing electrical safety.

Electrical Safety First, the charity dedicated to reducing deaths and accidents caused by electricity, has written to MP’s to explain why electrical safety needs to be addressed as a matter of urgency.

Whilst Electrical Safety First focused on the fact that electricity still accounts for over half of all fires in the home, the Government’s fire statistics also show that accidental fires in non-residential buildings was up by 4% to 12,500 in 2013/2014. The main source of ignition in fires in ‘other’ buildings (retail distribution, industrial premises, restaurants, cafes, pub/wine bars etc) was electrical distribution. These accounted for nearly one fifth of accidental fires in non-residential buildings.

Adrian Pendle, Managing Director of Intersafe said “electrical safety in any environment is important, whether it’s your home or office. At Intersafe our PAT Testing, Periodic Testing and Thermal Imaging ensures that accidents and injuries caused by electricity in the workplace are being avoided.”

Electrical safety is being bought to the forefront of Government attention, let’s hope it’s a shock to the system that will save lives.
