More disabled people will now be able to discover the joys of sailing on a tall ship, thanks to Fareham & Eastleigh company Intersafe
Intersafe has been giving the Jubilee Sailing Trust, a helping hand. The Woolston charity exists to promote integration between able bodied and physically disabled people through the adventure of tall ship sailing. The Trust was in need of help as it realised it had been just over a year since all its electrical equipment was PAT tested for safety.
Intersafe’s managing director, Adrian Pendle, said: “We were delighted to be able to help this very deserving cause and donate some time to check out their electrical equipment. The rules surrounding PAT testing are often very confusing but essentially, electrical safety can be viewed in exactly the same way as any other type of building maintenance and it is a company’s responsibility to see that it is done regularly and thoroughly. The Trust is based in a building which is predominantly made of wood, so it was particularly important because of the risk of fire, which could be caused by faulty electrical equipment.”
Initial contact with Intersafe was made by one of the Trust’s volunteers, who had a contact at the company. An engineer arranged to visit the HQ and spent a day checking out 241 electrical items – everything from kettles to microwaves to computers.
Chris Williams, Jubilee Sailing Trust’s IT Manager said: “Intersafe was great. From initial contact to completion of the job was only four days – I couldn’t believe how quickly it happened! The money Intersafe has saved us will go straight back into the charity and will help more disabled people discover the pleasure of sailing on a tall ship.”
