Newhaven Swing Bridge will close overnight in August for electrical testing, part of a £1m refurbishment project.
It’s not just offices and buildings that need to think about electrical testing, bridges require electrical testing too! Newhaven Swing Bridge, which carries the A259 over the River Ouse, will shut for five nights in August to allow testing of new electrical systems and lifting jacks.
The work is part of a scheme to completely refurbish the electrical and mechanical components of the structure, which was built in 1974. The bridge will close overnight from August 12th to 14th and 17th to 18th August as the £1 million refurbishment project nears completion.
A diversion route will be in place via the A26 New Road and C7 Lewes Road. East Sussex County Council lead member for transport, Carl Maynard said “Closing the bridge overnight will minimise the impact on motorists and while there will be some temporary disruption, I’d ask people to bear with us while this essential work is completed.” The scheme to refurbish the swing bridge is expected to be finished by the end of September.
Intersafe understand that carrying out work in business hours can cause disruption, that’s why we offer out of hours periodic testing at no additional cost, and will work with a business to perform necessary tasks during shutdown periods.
